Madras School of Social Work, established in 1952, located in Chennai, is an autonomous institution, NAAC accredited and affiliated to University of Madras. It was founded by Mary Clubwala Jadhav under the auspices of Madras State Branch of the Indian Conference of Social Work (renamed the Indian Council of Social Welfare) and the Guild of Service (central). The school is run under the aegis of the Society for Social Education and Research (SSER). Madras School of Social Work is a member of the Association of Schools of Social Work in India and the Asia - Pacific Association of Social Work Education. The School is also affiliated to the International Association of Schools of Social Work. The school is rated 3rd Best Social Work College in India and First in South India. The college offers growth opportunities for the students and encourages them to organize seminars and workshops and participate in various intra and inter-collegiate academic and co-curricular competitions. The college initiated its placement cell in 2009. The placement cell has been coordinating all the placement activities of the students, with support from the faculty and the student coordinators. The placement cell holds regular meetings of the student leaders, facilitated by the placement coordinator. The placement cell constantly collaborates with the Alumni Association (MSSWA) for its various activities.
The college has a well-stocked library with around 13,000 books and several journals and periodicals. The Library is fully computerized and renders bar-coded services.The college also has a full-fledged computer center with multimedia computers, internet, and printer facilities. Students are also given basic orientation in use of computers and internet. The college is fully equipped with audio-visual equipment to provide multimedia learning experience. Over head projectors, multi media LCD projectors, video camera and video players are available. All inmates of the hostel are also the members of the hostel mess and only vegetarian food is served.
