Manav Rachna University (MRU) has announced it is the first Indian university to offer the International Baccalaureate Educator Certificate (IBEC) for all three IB programs: the Primary Years Program (PYP), the Middle Years Program (MYP), and the Diploma Program (DP). This development follows a partnership with the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).
The IBEC program at MRU’s School of Education & Humanities (SoEH) aims to address the growing demand for trained IB educators in schools across India. The program provides aspiring teachers with international-standard training, preparing them for diverse career opportunities in prestigious global schools.
MRU’s B.Ed and B.Ed Integrated programs are now recognized by the IBO, reflecting the university’s commitment to adopting international training standards. This recognition allows pre-service teachers to experience innovative educational practices, including exposure to new pedagogies, educational philosophies, structures, and assessments specific to IB education.
The IBEC program at MRU includes practical training and access to IB community resources, such as the Programme Resource Centre, global conferences, and collaborative opportunities. This initiative is intended to enhance the quality of education and expand career opportunities for graduates.
Dr. Prashant Bhalla, President of Manav Rachna Educational Institutions, stated that the program empowers educators to make a meaningful impact, whether in prestigious international schools or in contributing to educational reform globally. Dr. Amit Bhalla, Vice President, highlighted the gap between the aspirations for IB education and the availability of trained educators, which the IBEC program aims to bridge.
Dr. Deependra Kumar Jha, Vice Chancellor, emphasized that this strategic move enhances education quality and opens numerous career opportunities for graduates. Ms. Rashima V. Varma, Director of Education and CAL, noted that the introduction of IBEC benefits both aspiring educators and the broader IB community by producing highly trained educators proficient in IB methodologies.
This initiative follows an MoU signed with the IB in October 2023 and the launch of Manav Rachna’s first IB school in Faridabad. The university plans to expand IB schools to other cities, furthering its commitment to international educational standards and inquiry-based learning.
