Students protest against government’s education and job policies

February 29, 2024

Numerous students gathered at HKS Surjeet Bhawan to protest against various central government policies on education and employment this Wednesday. The demonstration, organized by the left-affiliated All India Students Association (AISA) under the ‘Young India’ banner, aimed to highlight their concerns ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier this month, referendums were conducted in educational institutions nationwide to gauge student opinions on relevant issues. The students’ union released a charter condemning what they deemed as “failed policies” under the current government, including the National Education Policy and Common University Entrance Test (CUET), and called for their withdrawal.

Former Delhi University Teacher’s Association (DUTA) president Nandita Narain emphasized the need for a united effort against the current government’s policies. The rally saw the participation of Delhi cabinet minister Gopal Rai, senior advocate Prashant Bhushan, and RDJ national spokesperson Naval Kishore.

Warning of potential consequences in 2024, Minister Rai urged unity to resist what he termed as an onslaught on democracy. Bhushan called for an end to the policy of silence on critical issues and the spread of hatred in society.

Various student organizations, including SFI, MSF, AISF, PSU, RYA, AIYL, actively participated in the rally.
