January 5, 2024

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the PM SHRI schools initiative, targeting the upgrade of 928 schools in the state. Out of a total of 1753 selected schools in Uttar Pradesh under the PM Schools for Rising India (SHRI) Yojana, the first phase will witness the transformation of 928 schools into integrated campuses with advanced facilities.

At the launch event, held at Lok Bhawan and marking the initiation of the PM Shri Schools Modernization Program with a budget of Rs 404 crore, Adityanath emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for India to reclaim global educational leadership through the National Education Policy-2020. He expressed Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to this vision, highlighting that the state is currently educating approximately five crore students, a population exceeding that of many countries.

During the ceremony, Adityanath and Union Education Minister Pradhan allocated Rs 347 crore for infrastructure enhancements in secondary schools under ‘Project Anlakar’. Adityanath stated that the PM SHRI Yojna, announced by Prime Minister Modi on Teacher’s Day in 2022, is aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy-2020, providing renewed impetus to the education of five crore children in the state.

The PM SHRI Yojna aims to facilitate the development of PM Shri Vidyalayas, incorporating features such as Smart Classrooms, Digital Libraries, Science Laboratories, Computer Labs, Bal Vatika, additional classrooms, and furniture. Pradhan highlighted that nearly a thousand schools, managed by both the Central and state governments in Uttar Pradesh, are covered under the PM SHRI scheme. This initiative seeks to construct schools with modern facilities, serving as key institutions for the implementation of the National Education Policy-2020.
