Nestled within west Delhi’s residential suburb of Paschim Vihar is the 1.5-acre fully air-conditioned campus of the CBSE-affiliated Vishal Bharti Public School (VBPS, estb.1989). Over the past three decades it has earned a good reputation for providing well-balanced, 21st century academic, sports and co-curricular education. In the latest EW India School Rankings 2018-19, VBPS is ranked among the Top 35 co-ed day schools of the national capital. Virat Kohli, captain of India’s cricket team, is this school’s most famous alum.

Initially conceptualised as a modest neighbourhood K-VII education centre by S.K. Sachdeva, founder-publisher of Competition Success Review magazine among other education businesses,  Vishal Bharti Public School, Paschim Vihar was acquired in 2004 by the Modern Delhi Citizens Educational Society founded by Delhi-based businessmen Mahavir and Sunil Goel. Since then it has evolved into a full-fledged K-12 school with an enrolment of 1,900 students and 82 teachers on its muster rolls.
“Our prime objective is to provide a safe, joyful and intellectually stimulating environment to nurture confident and competent global citizens. The school’s curriculum is delivered by well-trained teachers utilising contemporary pedagogies which are inquiry-based, experiential and collaborative to develop students’ communication, critical thinking, collaboration and creative intelligences. Moreover, we are fully committed to developing our students’ sense of responsibility towards the community and the environment,” says Mahavir Goel, chairperson of  Vishal Bharti Public School, Paschim Vihar.

To fulfill the Modern Society’s objectives, the VBPS management has generously invested in providing the school with modern, enabling academic, sports and co-curricular education infrastructure. The school’s purpose-built 1.5-acre campus hosts a four-storeyed building housing the junior, primary, secondary and senior secondary wings with 52 air-conditioned Smart classrooms, state-of-the-art science labs, two well-equipped computer laboratories and a hi-tech maths lab, music and art studio, a 200-seat multipurpose hall and a well-stocked library with 13,000 volumes and resource materials.

Moreover for the past three years, the school has been awarded the Green School certificate of the Delhi-based Centre for Science & Environment for its solar energy roof panels and rainwater harvesting initiatives. VBPS is also a recipient of the British Council’s International School Award 2013-16.

Rachna Jain, principal of VBPS, believes the school’s defining features are its focus on holistic education and continuous teacher professionals development. “Inspired by our motto ‘excellence through education’, we make every effort to provide children a balanced blend of traditional and contemporary education experiences which integrate academic rigour with sports, co-curricular and community service activities to develop socially responsible life-long learners. Moreover, the management invests substantially in continuous professional development of our 82 teachers by organising regular seminars and workshops,” says Jain, an alumna of Delhi University who served in Vibgyor and Podar schools before being appointed principal of Vishal Bharti Public School, Paschim Vihar earlier this year.

Unsurprisingly, sports education is a high priority with expert and dedicated coaches training children in an array of sports and games. Sports facilities include well-defined cricket pitches, basketball, volleyball and throwball courts, splash pool for preschool children, roller skating rink and a multipurpose field for football and hockey. Indoor games include table tennis, yoga, taekwondo and acrobatics. Co-curricular education featuring music, art and craft, debates, quiz, theatre, dance and personality development, is an integral part of the curriculum.

The school’s management also accords high importance to community service and environment education. Over the past year under a unique We Care programme, VBPS students routinely visited old-age homes, organised street plays and rallies to highlight social issues, initiated plantation and composting drives, volunteered with NGOs and participated in the Union government’s Each One Teach One and Swachh Bharat campaigns.

The school management’s insistence on all-round education has positively impacted academic outcomes. This year, of the 90 Vishal Bharti Public School, Paschim Viharstudents who wrote the CBSE’s class XII exam, 87 averaged 90 percent plus. Class X CBSE results were also outstanding with the topper Lakshay Arora averaging 95.8 percent.

As the school celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, the top management has made continuous improvement its mantra. “To shape the future of our students we are committed to adapting latest digital technologies, adopting contemporary pedagogies and strongly focusing on teacher training and development,” says Jain.

Vishal Bharti Public School, Paschim Vihar is a KG-class XII school affiliated with the Delhi-based Central Board of Secondary Education. Nursery admissions are based on the Delhi state government’s norms and schedule. Admission application forms for other classes are available online.
