The White House has affirmed that President Joe Biden and his administration are diligently working to thwart and disrupt attacks on Indian and Indian American students across the United States. John Kirby, the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council, addressed this issue amid a concerning series of attacks on students from India and the Indian American community.
Kirby underscored the administration’s commitment to collaborate closely with state and local authorities, ensuring comprehensive efforts to prevent and disrupt such attacks while holding perpetrators accountable.
Recent incidents, including the tragic death of Vivek Saini in Georgia, an assault on Syed Mazahir Ali in Indiana, and the reported deaths of Akul Dhawan and Neel Acharya due to heavy drinking and exposure to low temperatures, have raised alarm. Additionally, Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, an Indian-origin student in Ohio, was found dead.
Community leader Ajay Jain Bhutoria expressed deep concern over these incidents, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced safety measures for students pursuing education in the US. He called upon college authorities and local police to promptly address safety challenges, acknowledging the shared concerns of parents and families in India.
Advocating for improved safety measures and robust support systems for Indian students in the USA, Bhutoria highlighted the necessity of uniting the Indian American community in addressing these pressing issues.
