Overview

Doon International School, Mohali is a co-educational, residential school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Founded in 2004, Doon International School, Mohali is is the only branch of the reputed Doon International School – Dehradun. The school is based on the philosophy and teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895-1986), a prominent thinker-philosopher-teacher, with an aim to establish an institution that unfettered young minds and gave them an opportunity to express their creativity in an environment of liberalism and knowledge.

The school boasts 1400 students from nursery to class XII who hail not only from India but also from various parts of the world including North America, UK, South East Asia, Brunei, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.

Campus

The campus facilities include smart classes & CCTV in every classroom, a specialised Nursery wing with splash pool and other attractive activities, state-of-the-art science, math, social studies laboratories, well equipped, multi-dimensional, air-conditioned library, music and dance studios with acoustics, computer laboratory and an auditorium equipped with the latest sound technology.

The school also hosts a sports complex with outdoor tennis, basketball, volleyball, cricket, hockey, football fields and indoor table tennis and badminton courts. There is also a gymnasium and a contemporary swimming pool.

Academics

Kindergarten classrooms are well equipped and brightly decorated; the section also has an activity centre and play park for leisure and relaxation outside classrooms. The teaching is activity based and modern methods of teaching like play way and role play are extensively used for imparting education.

At the junior school (Classes I-V), the classrooms and infrastructure create a sense of belonging and concepts familiarised in kindergarten are consolidated. Various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are introduced at this level and the children are encouraged to explore their creativity and individual talent.

At middle school (Classes VI to VIII), there is a transition from a protected environment to one where he develops his individuality and personality. Children are encouraged to develop their interest in specific subjects as per their aptitude and potential so that in the later years they can specialise in their chosen areas. The curriculum includes subjects such as English, Hindi, math, science, social sciences, arts, music and a third language.

At senior school (Classes IX to XII), student are prepared for their CBSE Board Examinations of class X and XII. The school aims to provide a scholarly yet stress-free environment for the students. The senior school students are also offered guidance and counseling. Specialised courses of study in class XI and XII are offered to prepare students for the career of their choice.

Admission

The school’s academic year begins on April 1 every year and all admission formalities are completed before that date. However limited vacancies may exist in the middle of the academic year.

Interested parents should obtain a copy of the prospectus by writing to the school office; the registration form enclosed within the prospectus must be submitted along with registration fee so that a child’s name may be registered on the waiting list for the year and class for which admission is sought.

The school conducts an entrance examination and the dates for the same are communicated well in advance by the school admissions office. Offers for admission are made on the basis of the results of these examinations and depends on the number of vacancies in each class.

In the case of overseas applicants, an offer of admission may be made on the basis of the previous academic performance of the child. Parents of overseas applicants must provide documentary and duly attested evidence to the school that the child has obtained the desired level of academic excellence. The school requires details of the academic record of the student, current mark sheets and a letter of recommendation from a teacher.
