Karnataka: CET results announced. Most engineering toppers from Bengaluru

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) on Thursday announced results of the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET). Vignesh Nataraj Kumar, a student of Kumara ‘s Children’s Home in Bengaluru has topped the list among engineering rank holders.

Kumar secured a total PCM percentage of 97.8%. Securing less than a 1% difference compared to this topper, Arjun Krishnaswamy from RV PU College, Bengaluru secured rank 2 and Samrudh Shetty of Vidyaniketan PU Science College, Dharward secured the third position.

This year’s top ten list includes eight students from Bengaluru.

As many as 2.44 lakh students wrote the KCET exams this year. Of them, 2.03 lakh are eligible for engineering, 1.6 lakh for BSc Nursing, 2.60 lakh for Pharma-D, 2.06 lakh for BPharma, 1.66 lakh for bachelors of veterinary sciences, 1.64lakh for BSc Agriculture, 1.66 lakh for BNYS (yogic sciences).

Last year, 1.66 lakh students were eligible to secure seats in engineering colleges.

This year, students got one grace marks each in Mathematics and Physics papers according to KEA.

“This is the first time we are conducting CET for BSc Nursing. When we spoke to the Nursing colleges about this, we understood there was a lot of resistance. It was a decision taken by the previous government. Since there is no legal verdict against this,we continued with the exam,” said Dr Sudhakar adding that NATA results will be published after the results of the third round of examinations is tabulated.

Trial App

Sudhakar said that despite clear instructions, students in rural areas have failed to fill online applications without errors. “Some of them have not entered their sports achievements while some have not specified rural quota information. A workshop will be conducted in colleges to address students’ doubts” he said.

Meanwhile the KEA is also designing an application that will act as a dummy portal for students to full their details on a trial and error basis before entering them on the actual website. This, they hope, will minimize errors.
