In a bid to enhance the spoken English skills of English teachers in government and aided secondary schools, around 8,500 educators in Uttar Pradesh will undergo training. The English Language Training Institute (ELTI) in Prayagraj has developed a comprehensive 132-module course, which will be hosted on the Ministry of Education’s DIKSHA portal.

The Director General of School Education, Vijay Kiran Anand, has issued orders to all joint directors and district inspectors of schools (DIOSs) to coordinate and monitor the training program, scheduled to commence on June 15. ELTI Principal Skand Shukla told media that each module lasts approximately 10 minutes and includes an assessment test. Completion of the test is necessary to obtain a certificate and progress to the subsequent module.

The training course not only focuses on spoken English practice but also covers important aspects such as phonetics, basic grammar, syntax, and common errors. Shukla emphasized that the course follows the General Indian English based on British pronunciation.

According to the Director General’s letter, participation in the course is compulsory for all English teachers. It will be accessible on the DIKSHA portal for a duration of four months, allowing trainees the flexibility to repeat modules and strengthen their English-speaking skills. The field officers have been directed to provide reports on the completion status of each teacher to the respective authorities.

The initiative aims to equip English teachers with the necessary skills to effectively communicate in English, thereby enhancing the overall quality of education in Uttar Pradesh. With this training, the government seeks to improve students’ proficiency in spoken English and contribute to their holistic development.
