Manipur plans to implement grading system for the class 10 board exams

March 15, 2024

According to a recent official statement issued by Elangbam Sonia, Joint Secretary of the Education Department, the Manipur government is set to introduce a grading system for the class 10 board examination, commencing from this academic year. This initiative aims to bring about a significant change in the assessment methodology. The statement emphasized that under this new system, students will no longer receive traditional divisions or ranks. Instead, their performance will be evaluated based on a grading scale. For instance, those achieving scores between 91 to 100 will be awarded an A1 grade, while scores ranging from 81 to 90 will be designated as A2. On the contrary, students scoring between 21 to 30 will receive an E1 grade, signifying failure, alongside E2.

The government underscored the importance of maintaining a healthy academic environment, advocating that while competition can be beneficial, it should not lead to excessive stress or discouragement among students. Consequently, the implementation of the grading system is anticipated to alleviate the burden of competition, fostering a more conducive learning atmosphere.

The matriculation exam, which is expected to be conducted from March 15 to April 8, is estimated to have approximately 37,715 participants, including 18,628 female candidates, distributed across 154 examination centers.
