Overview

National Institute of Fashion Technology, also called NIFT New Delhi, is a public autonomous fashion institute set up in 1986 by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India in technical collaboration with FIT, New York. NIFT is the founder member of the ‘Fashion Schools’ which comprises 34 fashion schools worldwide.

NIFT offer a variety of regular as well as Continuing Education programs. It hosts one of the oldest and richest resource centre featuring rich collection of printed and non-printed materials.

NIFT Placement Cell facilitates on campus placements for graduating students of NIFT to enable them to start their careers in challenging positions. Leading national and international apparel companies such as Blackberrys, Globus, Pantaloon, Proline, S.Kumar’s Titan, Carbon, and Mundra Garments vie with each other to recruit NIFT professionals. Leading buying offices like Gap, Li & Fung, Tommy Hilfiger, Triburg, Colby, Impulse-Next, etc. have been regularly offering key decision making positions to NIFT graduates.

The institute has always been rankd among top fashion colleges in India. 

Campus

The NIFT campus hosts aesthetically built buildings which house fully equipped lecture rooms, design studios and laboratories, resource centre, and activity centres.

The Design Studio offers ample opportunities to students to experiment and innovate, while the laboratories provide exposure to hi-technology work areas covering real time aspects of the industry.

The National Resource Centre and Resource Centre at IIFT New Delhi are pillars of information and knowledge management. Each resource centre has an integrated collection of print, visual and creative material resources. The resource center also provides information services to the design community, industry practitioners and entrepreneurs.

Placements:

NIFT New Delhi, like its other campuses, has a centralized placement process overseen by the Corporate Communication Cell. Students are provided opportunities and workshops to learn about the technology and development of fashion businesses. The placement team of the corporate communicaton cell enables industry engagement with students to provide them with on-the-job experiences. Students’ professional skills and competency are enhanced by a variety of workshops, internships, industrial visits and research endeavours organised by the university, helping them with the placement procedure.

Recent placement highlights- 2019-2020: In the placement procedure during 2019-2020 session, the highest CTC was recorded at INR 11 LPA, while the average CTC stood at INR 5 LPA. Leading recruiters from the fashion and design technology visited campus for recruitments, some of whom included Blackberry, H&M, Landmark Group, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd., Amazon and Myntra.

Admission

Undergraduate admission- B.Des.

Selection criteria: NIFT entrance exam scores.

Eligibility: 10+2 in any stream from a recognised board.

Admission procedure:

  • Candidates must apply for admissions and sit for the NIFT entrance exam.
  • The candidates will have to clear three rounds of the entrance test: creative ability test (CAT- 50% weightage), general ability test (GAT- 30% wieghtage) and situation test (20% weightage).
  • Candidates meeting the cut-offs will be shortlisted and eligible to attend counselling. Shortlisted candidates must attend the counselling process for seat allocation, securing which they may proceed with fee payment and document verification to confirm their admission.

Undergraduate admission- B.FTech.

Selection criteria: NIFT entrance exam scores

Eligibility: 10+2 in any stream from a recognised board.

Admission procedure:

  • Candidates must apply for admissions and sit for the NIFT entrance exam.
  • The candidates will have to appear for the written general ability test (GAT) comprising 150 questions for 180 minutes.
  • Candidates meeting the cut-offs will be shortlisted and eligible to attend counselling. Shortlisted candidates must attend the counselling process for seat allocation, securing which they may proceed with fee payment and document verification to confirm their admission.

Postgraduate admission- M.Des.

Selection criteria: Entrance exam scores (CAT and GAT) and performance in group discussion and personal interview.

Eligibility: Graduation (B.Des. or relevant degree) from a recognised university.

Admission procedure:

  • Candidates must apply for admissions and appear for the entrance exam.
  • The candidates will have to appear for the creative ability test (CAT- 40% weightage), and general ability test (GAT- 30% wieghtage), following which the candidates will be called for the group discussion and personal interview (GD/PI- 30% weightage).
  • Candidates meeting the cut-offs will be shortlisted and eligible to attend counselling. Shortlisted candidates must attend the counselling process for seat allocation, securing which they may proceed with fee payment and document verification to confirm their admission.

Postgraduate admission- M.F.M. and M.FTech.

Selection criteria: GAT entrance scores and performance in group discussion and personal interview.

Eligibility: B.FTech. from NIFT or B.E/B.Tech. from a recognised university.

Admission procedure:

  • Candidates must apply for admissions and appear for the entrance exam.
  • The candidates will have to appear for the general ability test (GAT- 70% weightage), following which the candidates will be called for the group discussion and personal interview (GD/PI- 30% weightage).
  • Candidates meeting the cut-offs will be shortlisted and eligible to attend counselling. Shortlisted candidates must attend the counselling process for seat allocation, securing which they may proceed with fee payment and document verification to confirm their admission.

NIFT New Delhi was ranked number one out of 8 public Indian colleges in the outlook rankings 2020.

India Today fashion design rankings ranked NIFT New Delhi number one out of 35 colleges in 2019 and 2020.

Accommodation

In-campus hostel facilities are available to students. With a total of 104 rooms, the hostel premises are equipped with basic amenities, recreational facilities such as indoor and outdoor games and televisions. The hostel premises are safe and secure, being provided with 24*7 professional security, hostel wardens’ supervision and doctors on call to address medical emergencies.
