In a significant development, a special court in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, delivered a verdict on Tuesday, convicting a school manager and a teacher for the gang-rape of a nine-year-old girl student in March 2022.

The court handed down a stern punishment, sentencing both individuals to 20 years of imprisonment.

Government counsel Dinesh Sharma revealed that the special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court judge declared the school manager, Udaypal, and teacher, Rajkumar, guilty of the crime committed in March 2022. In addition to the lengthy prison term, a penalty of Rs 50,000 was imposed on the perpetrators.

The shocking incident, as detailed in the police chargesheet, unfolded within the premises of the school, where the young victim, whose identity remains protected, fell prey to the ruthless actions of Udaypal and Rajkumar.

This landmark judgment sends a strong message to society that such reprehensible acts will not be tolerated, particularly when perpetrated against innocent children. The court’s decision emphasizes the gravity of the crime committed and aims to serve as a deterrent to potential offenders.

The prosecution, led by government counsel Dinesh Sharma, presented a compelling case, leaving no room for doubt about the guilt of the accused.

The convicted individuals, Udaypal and Rajkumar, were held accountable for their abhorrent actions, which inflicted severe trauma upon the young victim and her family. The court’s sentencing serves as a significant step towards providing justice for the victim and restoring a sense of security within the community.

In response to the verdict, child rights organizations and advocates have applauded the court’s decision, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the welfare and well-being of children. Efforts are now underway to provide support and counseling to the survivor and her family, recognizing the need for healing and rehabilitation in the aftermath of such a traumatic incident.
