Thane (formerly Thana) is a satellite city of Mumbai and part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Originally a residential suburb of the maximum city, over the years, Thane has metamorphosed into a vibrant self-sufficient city that hosts several industries including chemical, engineering, and textile and is the divisional headquarters of the state road-transport service. The eponymous district is primarily an agricultural region with rice, millets, fruits and vegetables being the chief produce.
