In a significant development for the education sector, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has granted its approval for the establishment of a new agriculture university in the Tamkuhiraj area of Kushinagar district in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The proposed university, named Mahatma Budha Agriculture University, aims to bolster agricultural education and research in the region.
During the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the proposal to allocate approximately 205 acres of land for the construction of the university was given the green light. The designated land includes 59 acres of farmland and around 145 acres of land currently owned by the Culture Department for the Maitrey project. Additionally, the state government is seeking permission from the Centre to acquire 186 acres of land currently under the purview of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for the Agriculture Science Centre and Spices Research Centre, which will be integral parts of the new agriculture university.
With an estimated expenditure of about Rs 750 crore, the construction of Mahatma Budha Agriculture University is poised to provide a substantial boost to the agricultural sector in the eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh. As per Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, the existing agriculture university in Ayodhya caters to 27 districts, while this new institution will specifically serve 10 districts in the eastern region.
In addition to the approval for the agriculture university, the Cabinet also sanctioned tenders for the establishment of six medical colleges under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The proposed medical colleges will be set up in Mainpuri, Hathras, Kansganj, Mahoba, and Hamirpur. This initiative aligns with the government’s previous announcement to establish 16 medical colleges in underdeveloped districts, including Baghpat, Ballia, Bhadohi, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Hathras, Kansganj, Maharajganj, Mahoba, Mainpuri, Mau, Rampur, Sambhal, Santkabirnagar, Shamli, and Shravasti.
