Bordered by the states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, Kanpur is a major industrial city located in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. With an area of 260 sq. km, it is the 11th most populous city in India, with a population of over 2.9 million people.
Kanpur is known for its leather and textile industries and is home to many small and medium-sized businesses. The city has a diverse economy with other industries including chemical manufacturing, engineering, and food processing. In 2018-19, Kanpur had a GSDP growth rate of 8.05 percent.
Despite being an industrial hub, Kanpur faces significant challenges such as air pollution, lack of sanitation, and poor road infrastructure. However, the city’s per capita income is increasing with an average of Rs.1.25 lakh, which is the national average. Kanpur has a growing number of young professionals and students, leading to an increasing demand for quality education in the city.
